ABS MDT Meeting

Overview

The ABS Multidisciplinary Team Meeting is an annual event bringing together professionals from across breast services to explore a pressing clinical topic through expert updates, multidisciplinary discussion and collaborative learning.

Each meeting focuses in depth on an area of breast care where evidence, practice or patient pathways are evolving. Previous themes have included management of the axilla, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and genetic testing, reflecting the range of complex issues considered by breast teams in everyday practice.

The 9th ABS MDT Meeting in 2027 will focus on Breast Radiotherapy: De-escalation, Precision & Controversies.

Programme Content

While the focus changes each year, the programme is designed to consider the selected theme from across the breast care pathway.

Areas explored at previous meetings have included:

• Management of the axilla, including imaging, staging, surgery, systemic treatment, radiotherapy and lymphoedema
• Diagnosis and management of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)
• The role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and its implications for treatment planning
• Genetic testing, risk assessment and the impact of results on patient management
• Areas of clinical uncertainty, evolving evidence and variation in practice
• Multidisciplinary approaches to complex cases and patient-centred decision-making
• Opportunities for greater consistency, collaboration and service improvement across breast teams

The ABS Multidisciplinary Team Meeting provides dedicated time for the wider breast team to examine one of these pressing topics in depth, understand different professional perspectives and discuss how emerging evidence can be translated into coordinated, patient-centred practice.
