Call for expressions of interest for ABS Nursing Committee roles

We are keen to develop the Breast Nurse Advisory Board into an ABS Nursing Committee and to increase the spread of representation on the group so that it truly reflects the different roles being undertaken by the ABS’ nurse members and also the geographical spread of the members across the UK.  To that end we are advertising for expressions of interest for the following roles:

ABS Nursing Regional Representatives

We are looking to appoint a group of 14 regional representatives to represent the nurse members from across the UK and to liaise with the surgical regional representatives.  The regions are as follows:

  • Eastern
  • East Midlands
  • London
  • Merseyside
  • Northern
  • Northern Ireland
  • North West
  • Scotland
  • South East Central
  • South East Coast
  • South West
  • Wales
  • West Midlands
  • Yorkshire and Humberside

The representatives would be required to attend ABS Nursing Committee meetings, which are held up to four times a year (usually by Zoom, but with one face to face meeting per year).  A job description for the role is available here.

ABS Academic and Research Committee – Nurse representative

We are looking to appoint a Nurse representative onto the Academic and Research Committee.  The committee has two nursing representatives; one being a trials nurse.  This role is aimed at an ABS nurse or affiliate member with an interest in research and trials. The individual can be a breast care nurse, ANP, AHP, Nurse Consultant or any other appropriate role, but the intention is for them not to be an individual working as a dedicated research or trials nurse, so as to give a different perspective to the other nurse representative on the committee.  The appointed individual will sit on the Academic and Research Committee.  The committee meets up to four times per year, with two of the meetings being remote and two in person.  The individual will also sit on the ABS Nursing Committee, which meets up to four times per year, usually by Zoom.

To apply

Applications for any of the above roles should be by an expression of interest in the form of a covering letter outlining what position you are applying for, your current nursing role, hospital and experience.  You should also outline why you are interested and suitable for the role and what you would hope to bring to it.

The letters should be e-mailed to Lucy Davies at the ABS Office (lucydavies@absgbi.org.uk) by 9am on Monday 1st November 2021.   For further information or to discuss the roles please contact Lucy Davies on 020 7869 6852 or 07936 359533 or by e-mail to her address listed above.
