4th Mammary Fold Advanced Communications Course for Breast Surgeons
The Mammary Fold will again be running their Advanced Communications Course for Breast Surgeons on the 28th & 29th September 2023 at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. It is suitable for consultants and trainees and all ABS and Mammary Fold members are welcome to register.
The course is designed for the modern breast surgeon and aims to provide techniques in dealing with challenging clinical scenarios and improving confidence and ability in engaging patients in understanding risk of their disease and surgery. The dynamic and interactive course is run over 1.5 days and is comprised of a variety of lectures, exercises and video footage on communicating with the breast cancer patient. Delegates work through real clinical scenarios with one-to-one training in small teaching group.
The course will cover topics such as:
- Dealing with difficult patient characteristics
- Uncertainties, anxieties and patient complexities
- Governance and best practice- how to protect patients... and yourself!
- Breaking bad news and challenging cases
- Handling prognosis
- Talking about risks and uncertainties in Genetic Testing
