Breast Surgery Qualifications

On this page you will find information about ESBQ and other qualifications.

Overview

The European Board of Surgery Qualifications (EBSQ) is increasingly recognised in some European states as the specialist breast qualification. UK breast surgeons are now seeking this specialist certificate to allow them to compete with what, on paper, may appear to be better accredited European/international applicants.

Master of Surgery and PG Diplomas in Oncoplastic and Aesthetic Breast Surgery

This award-winning online learning portfolio was established in 2011, and has provided training to over 200 breast surgeons in 35 different countries.

Each course prepares and qualifies candidates to at least first-year consultant level; this is achieved through a highly effective e-learning approach. These challenging but rewarding programmes are flexibly structured around the working lives of busy surgical practitioners and delivered through a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) hosting a thriving community of students and senior specialists from all over the world.

Each topic is delivered asynchronously, meaning that students do not need to be available to log in at set times. Four advanced clinical modules comprehensively cover the relevant areas of surgery, and two further modules develop skills and understanding in research and leadership methodology.

Online learning is supported by continual formative assessments of surgical knowledge, critical thinking and decision-making. All of these courses are ideal for senior breast and plastic surgery trainees, as well as practising breast consultants.

A stand-alone Breast Ultrasound module has been developed to support surgical ultrasound training, and will commence in September 2022.

For more information please contact: specialist.courses@uea.ac.uk or the Course Director: s.down@uea.ac.uk

The module will cover level 1 knowledge and application of theory, mapped to the UK Royal College of Radiologist’s curriculum for breast ultrasound for non-radiologists. CPD accreditation is awarded based on time spent in
online participation.
A face to face practical study day will compliment your online theoretical learning, and you will be encouraged
to maintain a reflective logbook available via our partner organisation, Logitbox.

This course is aimed at Consultant Breast surgeons, Senior trainees in breast surgery, Radiograghers and Physician Associates.

Introductory Fee £500.

For more information and to register please visit Breast Ultrasound Module or email: blendedlearninguk@jpaget.nhs.uk

This interactive module parallels the breast patient journey – from GP referral through to diagnosis, surgery, adjuvant treatment and discharge. Regardless of your speciality, you will encounter patients who have or have been treated for breast cancer, and an understanding of the disease will be invaluable knowledge.

Members of the Association of Breast Surgery are eligible for a 20% discount. Please complete this application form for further information. Please note you will be required to submit both your RCS number (obtained by registering at the top of this page) and your ABS membership number.
