Information about breast surgery qualification
On this page you will find information about ESBQ and other breast surgery qualifications.
Overview
Breast certification can now be achieved through the EBSQ (breast) exam supported by a European curriculum
The European Board of Surgery Qualifications (EBSQ) is increasingly recognised in some European states as the specialist breast qualification. UK breast surgeons are now seeking this specialist certificate to allow them to compete with what, on paper, may appear to be better accredited European/international applicants.

This award-winning online learning portfolio was established in 2011, and has provided training to over 200 breast surgeons in 35 different countries.
Each course prepares and qualifies candidates to at least first-year consultant level; this is achieved through a highly effective e-learning approach. These challenging but rewarding programmes are flexibly structured around the working lives of busy surgical practitioners and delivered through a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) hosting a thriving community of students and senior specialists from all over the world.
Each topic is delivered asynchronously, meaning that students do not need to be available to log in at set times. Four advanced clinical modules comprehensively cover the relevant areas of surgery, and two further modules develop skills and understanding in research and leadership methodology.
Online learning is supported by continual formative assessments of surgical knowledge, critical thinking and decision-making. All of these courses are ideal for senior breast and plastic surgery trainees, as well as practising breast consultants.
A stand-alone Breast Ultrasound module has been developed to support surgical ultrasound training, and will commence in September 2022.
