Applications invited for RCS Surgical Trials Initiative Associate Surgical Specialty Lead(s) in Breast Surgery

Applications invited for two Associate Surgical Specialty Leads in Breast Surgery.

Are you a senior resident or newly appointed consultant?

Are you research interested and want to get involved in the development and delivery of breast cancer trials in the UK and beyond?

Then this opportunity may be for you!

Surgical Speciality Leads (SSLs) for Breast Surgery, Professor Shelley Potter and Mr Henry Cain are looking to appoint two new Associate SSLs (aSSLs).

The RCS Surgical Trials Initiative was launched in 2012 and has appointed Surgical Specialty Leads across most specialties. One of the over-riding aims of the Initiative is to support resident doctor involvement in surgical research. The role of Associate SSL in Breast Surgery provides the unique opportunity for a breast surgery resident or newly appointed consultant to work with the two current SSLs to develop and deliver surgical research within breast surgery. The aSSLs will have the opportunity to support the SSLs in developing new trial ideas, attend RCS Surgical Trials Initiative meetings and gain experience of research more broadly.

For more information, please find the role description here or contact Prof Potter or Mr Cain directly. The tenure for the aSSLs would be 2 years in the first instance with the option of extending for a further year.

If you wish to apply for this role, then please send Professor Shelley Potter  (shelley.potter@bristol.ac.uk) and Mr Henry Cain, (henry.cain@nhs.net) a current CV together with a short (maximum one page A4) summary outlining:

•Why you would like to be considered for the role
•Your research interests and research experience to date
•What you would hope to gain from the post

The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 20th July 2026.
