ABS responds to DHSC measures to crackdown on unsafe cosmetic procedures to protect the public
ABS welcomes measures to tackle unsafe cosmetic procedures.
The ABS welcomes the Government’s plans to regulate unsafe cosmetic procedures. Many of these patients who have undergone Breast Cosmetic procedures (such as implants, breast lifts or filler injections) develop problems and present to Breast Clinics, whether their original surgery was undertaken here in the UK, or abroad. We see the adverse impacts of poorly regulated, unsafe or inappropriate surgery on a daily basis. We support the move to restrict invasive treatments to suitably qualified, GMC registered and CQC regulated health care professionals and clinics.
Ensuring these potentially harmful procedures are performed by trained breast or plastic surgeons, with proven competency, will help ensure patients receive a higher standard of treatment and are properly counselled about the potential impact of these surgeries before they agree to them. The sector is long overdue safe regulation and we welcome the Government's move to take this forward.
