Association of Breast Surgery recommendations for the management of radial surgical margins in patients undergoing breast conserving surgery for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)

Led by the ABS, a multi-disciplinary writing group has produced a document with the aim to provide clinical teams with evidence-based recommendations for the management of radial surgical margins after BCS for DCIS. The main conclusions are that there is increasing evidence to indicate 2mm is the critical margin width following BCS for DCIS as a radial margin width less than 2mm increases risk of local recurrence. Radial margin widths greater than 2mm margin width do not provide extra clinical benefit.
