ABS statement on the call for evidence to shape the national cancer plan for England

The ABS responds to the recent call for evidence from the Department of Health and Social Care to help shape the government’s national cancer plan for England.

ABS President, Leena Chagla said:

“We welcome the government’s focus on cancer and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the national cancer plan. We look forward to helping the government develop an effective approach to breast cancer care that prioritises data-driven decision making and ensures the very best outcomes for breast cancer patients.

It is crucial that all patients have equal, timely access to the highest standards of treatment, regardless of where they live, especially in relation to breast reconstruction following mastectomy and access to systemic therapy.

It is also vital that we use data to improve the quality of care overall by putting robust quality assurance processes in place for both breast cancer screening and symptomatic cases.

We look forward to this opportunity to support the government in this important work.”
