UK Mo-99 and I-131 Radioisotope supply update
An update on the current problems with the UK’s supply of radioisotopes from Europe.
Many of you are aware of current problems with the UK’s supply of radioisotopes from Europe, due to a problem with the High Flux Reactor (HFR) in The Netherlands operated by NRG.
However, an early restart of HFR is being prepared, pending approval. Another research reactor in Poland is also restarting in early November. If both facilities restart as planned, Nuclear Medicine Europe’s Emergency Response Team anticipate that a normal supply of Mo-99 radioisotope will resume from the week commencing 11th November, ending current shortages.
We will provide further updates when more information is available. In the meantime, please encourage your colleagues to check with their nuclear medicine departments to understand any impact to your service.
If your Breast Unit is affected by shortages, please see the previous update for interim advice.
