The Government has now published its response to the Paterson Inquiry with most of the recommendations accepted.
ABS members are advised to take a look at the recommendations which are relevant to all but particularly to those working in private practice.
We would especially highlight recommendation 2, which has been accepted:
We recommend that it should be standard practice that consultants in both the NHS and the independent sector should write to patients, outlining their condition and treatment, in simple language, and copy this letter to the patient’s GP, rather than writing to the GP and sending a copy to the patient.
This is something members should all do with immediate effect. If you are not already doing this do start, this should now be standard practice.
