Recognising Excellence in Breast Surgery Training
The Mammary Fold Trainer of the Year Award celebrates outstanding contributions to surgical education in breast and oncoplastic surgery by consultants and clinical trainers. Modern breast surgical training is continuously evolving, with trainers playing essential roles in equipping tomorrow’s consultants with the clinical, operative and professional skills they need to thrive.
This annual award honours trainers who go above and beyond in supporting the development of breast surgery trainees, demonstrating excellence in mentorship, leadership and commitment to high standards of surgical education. It acknowledges the critical role that expert teaching and dedicated supervision play in shaping the next generation of breast surgeons.
Who Can Be Nominated
Nominations are open to consultants and clinical trainers who have made a significant impact on breast surgery training. Trainers should be recognised for:
- Ensuring Safe and Effective Patient Care through Training
- Establishing and Maintaining an Environment for Learning
- Teaching and Facilitating Learning
- Enhancing Learning through Assessment
- Supporting and Monitoring Educational Progress
- Guiding Personal and Professional Development
- Continuing Professional Development as a Trainer
Please take into account the framework of the Faculty of Surgical trainers, the Royal College of Edinburgh when nominating your most outstanding trainer of the year in breast surgery.

Nominations are now open for the Mammary Fold Trainer of the Year Award 2026.
Please complete the online nomination form with your reason for nomination, including endorsements from other trainees where possible.

Past Award Winners
The Mammary Fold Trainer of the Year Award 2025 was awarded to Miss Carol-Ann Courtney, Consultant Breast Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital (East Midlands North Deanery).
Miss Courtney's support to trainees in their acquisition of clinical, operative and additional professional skills was highly commended.
