Current Studies

On this page you will find information about current MFAC supported studies.

Getting involved as a collaborator in a national research study is a great way to get experience in research and also a vital contribution to improving practice standards for our patients. What's more, it can be a great line on your CV, especially as every doctor is required to show their engagement with evidence based medicine.

The National Unilateral Nipple Discharge Study (an MFAC collaborative study) is still recruiting and have data on 600 patients which means we are over a quarter of the way to reaching the target of 2200 patients.

The NUND Study aims to answer the following

  • Evaluate number of women presenting to UK breast clinics with unilateral nipple discharge
  • To determine the incidence of malignancy in women presenting with unilateral nipple discharge.
  • To evaluate the best way of investigating these patients by calculating the sensitivity and specificity of commonly

           used investigations

The results of this study will be the basis of a new National Guideline for managing nipple discharge.

The collaborators will be PubMed cited Please note, contributing data with a high missing data rate will result in an
acknowledgement and certificate of involvement instead.
