RCS Trainees Conference: North East

This free* one-day conference is aimed at all surgical trainees in the north-east and north Cumbria.

Programme

 

The conference will be hosted by Mr Leslie Hamilton, Regional Director for the North East and supported by Professor Derek Alderson, President of the RCS.

The day includes sessions focused on the following key topics:

  • RCS and you
  • Trainee as trainer
  • Supported decision-making
  • Getting involved in research
  • Technology and surgery


As keynote speaker, Mr Shafi Ahmed will be talking about Virtual Reality and surgical training. 

The event will include a research Dragons' Den session and where participants will be invited to nominate themselves for entry by submitting a 250 word abstract on 'Technology innovation in surgical training' by 10pm Sunday 20 August 2017. Abstracts should include how you would spend a £1 million research grant to develop a technological innovation to improve surgical training.

Entries will be judged prior to the event and three successful candidates will be invited to present their ideas to the panel of Dragons at the conference. 

Prize: 1st place will be acknowledged. The winner will be announced and presented with a prize at the conference. Unfortunately the prize won't include the £1 million research grant but it will help to support the winner's developing career. Details to be confirmed.


Cost

 

This conference is free however a £25 refundable deposit is required to secure your place. This will be refunded upon attendance at the event.
