Chair of the ABS Aesthetic Breast Surgery Committee

The Chair of the ABS Aesthetic Breast Surgery Committee is not currently a Trustee post.  The ABS Trustees are intending to ask the membership at the AGM in 2023 to put all its committees on an equal footing and consider proposed changes to the Articles to include the Chairs of the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Committee and International Committee as Trustees.  Now these committees are established, this is intended to bring these committees in line with the other ABS committees (of which the Chairs are already ex-officio Trustees under the Articles) and ensure their good governance and reporting lines through to the Executive Board.

Lee Martin is due to demit as chair of the Aesthetic Breast Surgery committee in May 2023.  The ABS is therefore now seeking nominations for a new chair for the committee to take office in May 2023.  If, at that time, the membership approve the proposed changes to the committee, then that individual will become a Trustee.  If not, then they will become the chair of the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Committee and will sit on the Clinical Practice & Standards Committee in addition (and they will not also be a Trustee).

The ABS is intending to run the process of appointing a new Chair of the committee as if this were already a Trustee post, both in the hope that the appointed individual will become a Trustee in due course, but also because this is an important role within the ABS and the Trustees feel that the individual appointed should be subject to the same conditions and method of appointment as a Trustee.

Requirements to stand for Chair of the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Committee and term of office
