BAPRAS & ABS Healthcare Innovation MDT "Hackathon” 2017

Dear ABS Members,

Are you a budding Elon looking to crack some of the biggest challenges in healthcare or are you an entrepreneur with a unicorn waiting to escape?

The ABS is joining forces with the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) Innovation group who are hosting a Healthcare 'Hackathon' in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on the weekend of 7th and 8th October 2017.

For those not familiar with the concept of a 'Hackathon', think of it as the ‘Innovation MDT’, where specialists gather over 48 hours to develop a management plan to specific problems. Over the course of the weekend, we will bring together some of the UK’s most innovative surgeons, management consultants, designers, coders, and marketers and combine them into teams that will compete in forming ideas or products to solve major issues in the delivery of healthcare. This event will bring together experts at the forefront of surgery, consulting and technology and provide an invigorating atmosphere to interact and learn from each other.

This is the second year BAPRAS have run a hack. Last year was huge fun and two companies were spun out from the competition. You can find out more here.

If you are interested but worried you do not have sufficient experience - don’t worry! Your skills will be invaluable when working with great business minds, coders and designers to devise commercially viable solutions, develop business cases and create minimal viable products (MVPs) ready for our judges.

Winners will be chosen by a panel including BCG Partners from the Healthcare Practice and leading UK Clinicians, including Professor Shafi Ahmed (Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London Hospital, serial entrepreneur and first surgeon to broadcast his operations for education, using Periscope and Snapchat glasses), and Prof Ian Whittaker (Consultant Plastic Surgeon, leading researcher on industrial convergence and the applications of nanotechnology in healthcare).

To register for the event go to http://bit.ly/2wQSZtk - places will be limited.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
