Enhanced Recovery

On this page you will find information about the Enhanced Recovery Programme.

The aims of the Enhanced Recovery Programme for Breast Reconstruction are:

  • To deliver better quality care
  • To deliver safer care
  • To ensure patients are given clear information about their surgery, the anaesthesia, the analgesia and post operative care
  • To give patients information about when and how this care can be delivered in the comfort of their own homes with the support of their breast care team by telephone, at the hospital and outpatient clinics, and also by district nurses.

We need your help and advice as to examples in your own team where you have introduced improvements to the patient pathway to develop enhanced recovery. If you are looking for good examples of projects for members of your team to get involved in this is an ideal one. It demonstrates your ability to engage with your team to help you identify ways of reducing stays in hospital. We would be interested to know of ways you have done this.

If you are interested in developing your skills around service design go to the E-Learning for Healthcare website where you will find the clinical leadership competency framework has a whole section on service redesign. It has a whole section with 20 minute online modules on improving the patient pathway through small steps of change which also improves team effectiveness.
